YOUR TASKS
- At least 80% of your assignment will be spent on academic research
- The “Lab of Myeloid Cell Biology in Tissue Damage and Inflammation” (Prof. Scott laboratory) is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and committed pre/postdoctoral researcher.
- The selected candidate will be a full-time researcher in the Inflammation Research Center (IRC) of the University of Ghent (UGent) in charge of investigating how Kupffer cell (KC) activation and cell death contributes to the development of MASLD and fibrosis.
- The selected candidate will use a combination of in vivo murine models, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, histology and (spatial) transcriptomics to investigate the role of KCs in modulating MASLD progression.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You must hold a Master’s degree in the field of biology or biomedical sciences.
- You must have a certificate attesting professional competence in working with laboratory animals (FELASA certificate or EU equivalent).
- Proficiency in basic molecular and cellular biology techniques.
- Expertise in high complexity multiparametric flow cytometry and cell-sorting (> 20-plex panels) using spectral flow cytometry instruments.
- Expertise in immunofluorescence and spectral confocal microscopy (> 5-plex panels)
- Experience in commonly used histological techniques and stains.
- Experience of working on the liver, including liver perfusion to isolate cells of interest
- Experience in the bioinformatical analysis of transcriptome data
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Positive attitude, solution-oriented, team player, eager to learn and flexible.
- Strong interest in fundamental research and myeloid cell biology.
- A proven track record of obtaining research funding
- Experience with working with highly autofluorescent tissues, such as the fatty liver
- Experience with working with human and mouse liver samples
- Experience with working with macrophages
- Experience with cell death pathways
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract of definite duration for 2 years.
- Your contract will start on 1/01/2027 at the earliest.
