Summary
The Bioinformatics Scientist within the BioIT team in Genomics Services develops, maintains, and operates bioinformatics pipelines, software applications, and data processing workflows. This role combines bioinformatics, software development, cloud computing, and operational data processing, while supporting data analysis and internal R&D initiatives across a diverse portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities
- Executes projects and tasks assigned by the Head of the Bioinformatics Team, while meeting agreed timelines and quality standards

Develops, maintains, validates, and optimizes bioinformatics analysis pipelines and workflows

Designs and implements software applications and ETL solutions to support data processing, integration, and reporting activities

Operates and monitors production bioinformatics workflows and ensures timely delivery of analysis results

Troubleshoots bioinformatics pipelines, software applications, and data processing workflows

Contributes to the management and optimization of cloud-based computational infrastructure

Works in compliance with applicable quality procedures (computer system validation) and uses QMS systems as appropriate

Trains and supports users in the effective use of developed software and workflows

Translates end-user needs to user and functional requirements
Education
- Degree in Bioinformatics (MSc, BSc), or equivalent knowledge in bioinformatics, or a related field, or software development in an industry setting
Main Requirements

At least 3 years of relevant bioinformatics experience

Strong programming skills in Python and/or R, with good coding practices and experience using version control (Git)

Experience developing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines, preferably in a production setting

Experience with workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake

Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS or Azure

Proactive, accountable, and adaptable, with a strong interest in understanding bioinformatics workflows, software systems, and laboratory processes at a deep technical level

Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities in a dynamic environment

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience developing ETL applications or data integration workflows

Experience working in regulated environments

Familiarity with computer system validation (CSV) practices

Experience working within a Quality Management System (QMS)
Working Conditions

Full-time position requiring on-site presence 3-4 days per week
