YOUR TASKS
- Conducting research on Buddhist material culture and the transfer of knowledge in Buddhist rituals from India to China.
- Publishing academic output on the impact of Buddhist bodily habits in early Medieval Chinese society.
- Research collaboration with MA/Ph.D. research students.
- Communication to the academic audience and the wider public (through public lectures and workshop).
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a thesis-based doctorate in Oriental Languages and Cultures
- You have an excellent knowledge of Classical Chinese, Buddhist Chinese and Modern Chinese.
- You have an excellent knowledge of Buddhism in Medieval China and of Buddhist-Confucian dialogues.
- You have an excellent knowledge of Buddhist material culture.
- You have substantial fieldwork in the Sinophone areas.
- You have substantial experiences in scientific publishing.
- You have experience in science communication (active participation in academic conferences and organization of workshops and conferences)
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from 1/11/2026 – 28/2/2027.
- Your contract will start on 1/11/2026 at the earliest.
- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate). Click here for more information about our salary scales.
