HEC Liège offers a position as a research and teaching
assistant (PhD student) in economics (F/M)
The Department of Economics at HEC® Liège (Management school of the University of Liège. Belgium)
is searching for a research and teaching assistant (PhD student) to strengthen its team in applied
econometrics. Aside from teaching duties for micro and international economics classes, the
successful applicant is expected to write a PhD thesis on a topic related to be defined.
WHAT DO WE OFFER
A full-time position, up to 6 years (two-year renewable contracts after receiving positive
evaluations). The salary will be set according to the doctoral student salary scale of the University
of Liège (i.e. approximately 2.300 € net per month).
A starting date on 15 September 2026.
A stimulating and flexible research environment, as a member of the research unit Economic
Analysis and Policy (EAP).
A doctoral training program in collaboration the Graduate School in Economics (all French-
speaking universities in Belgium plus the KU Leuven).
WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM YOU
Conducting a research project, with the aim to write a PhD thesis in the field of economics.
Successfully attending the doctoral training program.
Being in charge of practical sessions for econometrics classes.
YOUR PROFILE
You have (or are close to completion) of a Master’s degree in economics, econometrics, applied
statistics/mathematics.
You have an interest in applied (environmental/health/…) econometrics .
You have a keen interest in econometrics, and quantitative methods used in Economics.
You have some knowledge of Stata, R, Matlab or python (or another program), and the willingness
to extend it.
You are fluent in English. Knowledge of French is mandatory because you will be supervising some
of the bachelor’s degree courses.
You are persistent, work independently and have good communication skills.
