As a Piping CAD Designer, you play a key role in the design and 3D modelling of industrial piping installations. You translate P&IDs into accurate 3D models and construction drawings, working closely with project engineers, site teams and technical experts. This position combines technical expertise, attention to detail, teamwork and a strong understanding of field constraints.
Main Responsibilities
1. Design & 3D Modelling
- Develop piping layouts based on P&IDs, process data and site surveys / existing 3D models.
- Create complete 3D models of piping systems, steel structures and electrical distributions (cable trays, etc.) using SolidWorks and AutoCAD (Plant / 3D environment).
- Position and integrate equipment such as pumps, skids, valves, filters, heat exchangers and tanks within the overall model.
- Design pipe supports and secondary steelwork, ensuring feasibility and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure accessibility, safety and maintainability of installations, taking into account HSE rules, ATEX areas, safety distances and operational constraints.
2. Drawing & Documentation Production
- Prepare general arrangement drawings (GA) for workshops, construction and client validation.
- Produce detailed piping isometric drawings with line identification, materials, diameters, pressure ratings and welding information.
- Generate material take-offs and bills of materials (MTO / BOM) to support procurement and site activities.
- Create detailed drawings for supports, flanges, mechanical assemblies and specific interfaces.
- Contribute to the update of as-built documentation at project completion.
3. Technical Analysis & Compliance
- Perform clash detection between disciplines and propose design adjustments to resolve interferences.
- Check space constraints, thermal expansion, drainage, accessibility and circulation in the 3D model.
- Apply relevant piping and mechanical standards (e.g. ASME, EN, ANSI) according to project requirements.
- Optimise routing to reduce complexity, minimise installation costs and improve constructability.
4. Coordination & Collaboration
- Work in daily interaction with Piping, Process, Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation engineers.
- Coordinate with site teams to validate measurements, feasibility and design changes.
- Participate in internal and client 3D model reviews, presenting and explaining design choices.
- Take part in technical meetings (kick-off, design reviews, constructability reviews) and contribute to technical decisions.
Technical Skills
- Degree in industrial design, mechanical engineering or piping (equivalent to Bac+2 / Bac+3).
- Strong command of SolidWorks for 3D modelling of piping and mechanical assemblies.
- Proficient in AutoCAD (Plant / 3D) for layout and piping design.
- Experience with clash detection and 3D coordination tools (e.g. Navisworks or similar).
- Solid knowledge of industrial piping: materials, components, standards and installation practices.
- Excellent ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics and technical drawings.
- At least 4 years of experience as a Piping Designer / CAD Drafter in industrial environments (EPC, process industries, energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, data centres or similar).

- High level of accuracy, rigour and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and interact with different stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in brownfield environments with frequent design changes and constraints.
- Technically curious, eager to learn and to keep skills up to date.
- Native or fluent French, with good technical English (reading and writing).
