Description

WBG Pioneers, the World Bank Group’s Internship Program, offers undergraduate and postgraduate students a high impact learning experience at the heart of global development. Participants gain hands on experience in a diverse and dynamic environment, contribute fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, and connect with international professionals working to end poverty on a livable planet.

Background/Organizational Context
Blended Finance is a key tool in the execution of IFC’s 3.0 strategy Creating Markets. The Blended Finance Department now manages a pool of contributor funds of over $7 billion focused on accelerating IFC’s engagement in the most developmentally impactful areas: IDA and FCS countries, climate, SME and agriculture. The blended concessional facilities managed by the Blended Finance team is structured to co-finance, along with IFC funding, investment projects to address market barriers in private sector projects. These funds are deployed alongside IFC's own resources, thus enabling IFC to invest in projects that would not otherwise take place without a co-investment on concessional terms.

The Blended Finance team’s role is to optimize the co-investment of funds from contributors, on concessional terms and consider the contributors' risk appetite, and in line with IFC's blended finance approach, governance and principles. Such concessional funds are able to accept higher risk/ lower return than commercial funds while not providing pure grants.

Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct research on the key expected EC priorities for the next MFF 2028-2034 and prepare a report/presentation about how IFC can support the EC’s MFF implementation through the Vision 2030 and IFC’s other relevant strategies. The report would include priorities by thematic areas as well as specific priorities for each region and sub-region and mapping the priorities with IFC’s strategy and new initiatives.

Prepare one strategic KM deliverable focusing on IFC-EC partnership, including overview of funding envelopes and a forward-looking assessment of potential new areas for collaboration. The KM deliverable would be based on research conducted under point (1).

Contribute to development of a social media package that can be used to highlight the growing BF partnership between IFC and the EC, including illustrative examples of high impact projects. The social media package would be based on the KM deliverable conducted under point (2).

Contribute to development of a portfolio and pipeline tracking tool covering IFC’s EC funding envelopes, including visualization of program progress per envelope.

Selection Criteria

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or in the final year of, an undergraduate or postgraduate (master’s/PhD) program

Candidates must have 0–6 years of relevant professional experience
Academic background must align with the requirements outlined in the job description
Demonstrated interest in development work and the World Bank Group’s mission
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in diverse, team-based environments
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines
Proficiency in English; additional languages may be required depending on the role

No-Fee Internship Eligibility
This position is offered under the WBG Pioneers No-Fee Internship Track. Students may be offered a no-fee STT appointment provided that they either: (a) are enrolled in a Master's, PhD, or similar graduate program during the entire internship (or are in the fifth year or higher of a degree program in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages) and provide an official letter from their university confirming that the internship fulfills academic requirements for at least one term of study; or (b) are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies and receive a stipend from their university at least equivalent to the minimum STT T1 fee level in effect at the start of the assignment, as confirmed by an official university letter.
