Your Role:
As a Senior System Engineer, you play a key role in the stability, security, and evolution of the infrastructure platforms that support Group S' critical business applications. You are responsible for designing, implementing, operating, and continuously improving our server, virtualization, and hybrid infrastructure environment.
You will join the Enterprise Systems Team, responsible for Windows and Linux platforms, VMware environments, and the infrastructure services underlying our business applications. Working closely with the Security Team, Network Team, Architecture Team, Modern Workplace Team, Platform Team, Service Desk, and application teams, you contribute to operational excellence, infrastructure modernization, and the continuous strengthening of our security posture.
As a senior member of the team, you act as a technical reference for complex infrastructure topics, take ownership of assigned technology domains, and contribute to the development of standards, automation, and best practices across the organization
Your Qualifications:
- You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in ICT, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a System Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar infrastructure-focused role.
- Experience operating and supporting enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of VMware and Microsoft environments, including Windows Server, Active Directory, SCCM, clustering, file servers, IIS.
- Good basic to intermediate knowledge of Linux server administration.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure or hybrid infrastructure environments is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, or similar technologies is highly appreciated.
- Understanding of networking basics, including IP addressing, network topologies and VLANs.
- Strong awareness of security principles and operational risk management.
- Experience applying security controls within infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with vulnerability management, system hardening, privileged access management, and secure operational practices.
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining a collaborative mindset.
- Ability to proactively identify and solve problems logically and autonomously, such as troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remediation.
- You have a strong team spirit and work in an orderly and methodical manner.
- You are communicative and have good time-management and prioritization skills.
- You are flexible and willing to participate in the team’s rotational on-call duty.
- You are curious and show initiative.
- You speak French and English; Dutch is a plus.
Your Responsibilities
- Technical Analysis and Problem Solving: conduct detailed technical analysis and troubleshooting to resolve complex system issues related to the above-mentioned environments.
- Vulnerability and Security Management: apply security best practices in daily operations, including patching, hardening, privileged access management, and proactive reporting of security risks.
- Asset Ownership: you will be responsible for the proper day-to-day operation and lifecycle management of your assigned asset portfolio.
- Documentation: create and maintain detailed documentation outlining system configurations, processes, and maintenance procedures.
- System Design and Implementation: develop and integrate, in collaboration with the architecture team, solutions that meet business requirements, including both hardware and software components.
- Automation: continuously improve operational efficiency by automating infrastructure and application provisioning and management.
- Collaboration: work closely with other IT teams, such as the service desk, network team, security team, and architecture team, to achieve common goals.
- Process Improvement: continuously evaluate system performance and implement improvements to enhance functionality, security, and operational efficiency, thereby reducing potential issues.
- Project Contribution: contribute to infrastructure projects from analysis to implementation, ensuring technical deliverables are completed on time and properly documented
