MedTech Europe is the European trade association for the medical technology industry including diagnostics, medical devices, and digital health. Our members are national, European and multinational companies as well as a network of national medical technology associations who research, develop, manufacture, distribute and supply health-related technologies, services, and solutions.
Since 2019, MedTech Europe and its members are heavily investing into European collaborative research initiatives like the Innovative Health Initiative. It is a new journey for the MedTech sector that requires a strong investment from our members and from MedTech Europe to inform, educate, accompany and guide companies.
MedTech Europe is currently looking for an Intern Research & Innovation (R&I). This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of:
- European healthcare policy
- Research and innovation
- Regulatory affairs
- Medical technology
- Stakeholders’ engagement
- Strategic communication
You will work closely with industry experts, European institutions, and leading life science associations, while helping shape MedTech Europe’s Research and Innovation (R&I) and Regulatory Affairs (RA) agenda and support the execution of the resulting initiatives and actions.
The position is split equally between two areas of responsibility:
- Research and Innovation (50%)
- Regulatory Affairs (50%)

Reports to: Research & Innovation Senior Expert
For Regulatory affairs:
Reports to: Regulatory Affairs (IVDR & MDR) Senior Expert
Reporting to both the Senior Expert R&I and the Senior Expert RA, you will contribute to the implementation of MedTech Europe’s R&I and RA strategy via the following activities:
Monitor and analyse the EU research & innovation ecosystem and regulatory requirements
- Track developments within the EU public funding landscape and identify funding and collaboration programmes of interest to MedTech Europe members
- Analyse participation of MedTech Europe members in these programmes
- Map regulatory requirements across different frameworks to support regulatory harmonisation
- Contribute to the preparation of technical analyses and reports
Generate insights and intelligence
- Maintain and analyse a database of MedTech Europe members participation in the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI)
- Map consultancies that support organisations applying / participating in IHI
- Analyse participation of MedTech Europe members in IHI
Stakeholder engagement
- Engage with a diverse network of actors across the European health innovation ecosystem.
- Support the coordination of the EU health innovation project on regulatory affairs,
- Organise and support meetings with internal and external stakeholders (including meeting materials and follow-up on actions)
Contribute to communication activities
- Develop a variety of communication materials for MedTech Europe members and external stakeholders together with MedTech Europe Communications team and the senior experts (e.g. articles for MedTech Europe internal and external newsletters, project presentations, reports, …)
- Support updates to Medtech Europe’s website and members intranet
- Maintain a forward-looking calendar of relevant events and conferences
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in social/political/economic sciences, European Affairs
- Strong interest in healthcare innovation, regulatory affairs, medical technologies, and European policy
- Fluency in both oral and written English
- Analytical mindset, ability to carry out research and present results effectively both in written and orally
- Reactiveness, ability to work independently and take initiatives
- Eye for detail, stress resistance, and a positive attitude
- Competences in standard Windows, MS Office applications, and SharePoint
- Interest in medical technologies/healthcare, Research & Innovation, Regulatory Affairs
- Is eligible to work as a trainee in Belgium
- This internship is only applicable for candidates who hold a diploma and are not linked to any internship with a university.
- Familiarity with the EU R&I landscape, especially the Horizon Europe programme
- Previous work experience in EU-related organisations, trade association, consultancy, or similar environment
- Experience with policy monitoring or stakeholder engagement
- Knowledge of another EU language
- A one-year full-time contract under the Belgian Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle (CIP)
