Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial appliances in support of U.S. Army DPW operations under the LOGCAP V / V2X Public Works Program. Works under close supervision performing basic diagnostics and repairs on refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, and small appliances. Performs preventive maintenance, cleaning, and inspection tasks while following safety and environmental standards.

Installs, services, and repairs washers and dryers, using hand tools and test equipment, and following wiring diagrams and manufacturers' specifications.

Connects appliances to power sources and test meters, such as wattmeter, ammeter, or voltmeter; observes readings on meters and graphic recorders; examines appliances during operating cycles to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, and loose parts; and disassembles appliances to examine mechanical and electrical parts.

Traces electrical circuits, following diagrams and locates shorts and grounds using ohmmeter, calibrates timers, thermostats; adjusts contact points; and cleans and washes parts using wire brushes, buffers, and solvent to remove carbon, grease, and dust.

Replaces worn or defective parts, such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers, and defective wiring; repairs and adjusts appliance motors; reassembles appliances; adjusts pulleys; and lubricates moving parts using hand tools and lubricating equipment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude

Ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment

Ability to read simple diagrams and manuals

Valid driver’s license

Ability to lift 50 lbs and move appliances safely

OSHA 10 Construction or General Industry (required within 90 days of hire)

Electrical safety awareness training (required within 90 days of hire)

Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) awareness (required within 90 days of hire)

First Aid / CPR (required within 90 days of hire)

Refrigeration certification (EPA 608 Type I or Universal) (Preferred)

Appliance repair vocational certificate (Preferred)

Manufacturer basic service training (Or equivalent, required)

Working Conditions:

Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical, environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months).

Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
