The HVAC-R Technician II is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems. Includes repairing, maintaining, and installing HVAC-R equipment and systems, inspect equipment maintenance risks, diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, adjusting and cleaning systems.

Perform repairs and installation on HVAC/R equipment and commercial kitchen equipment for residential and commercial customers.

Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC/R equipment for commercial and residential applications including commercial refrigeration equipment.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, walk in refrigeration/freezer units and some experience on centrifugal and rotary screw compressor chillers.

Validate laboratory air flows to meet OSHA safety requirements.

Conduct a wide range of repairs in accord with OSHA regulations.

Operate and maintain high- and low-pressure steam boilers, hot water boilers and all related equipment.

Service and maintain chillers, air handler units, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment for the facility

Operate an anhydrous ammonia refrigeration system and also perform maintenance and preventative maintenance repairs to the same equipment.

Work on maintaining the ammonia refrigeration system: compressors, evaporators, and all other ammonia refrigeration components.

Replace humidifiers, air cleaners and temperature controls.

Used electrical meters to check capacitors, resistors, ohm motors, check for voltages ranging from 24VAC to 480VAC.

Change filters and belts; clean condenser coils; install new A/C units; adjust tension pulleys.

Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.

High school diploma or equivalent
-
Completion of HVAC trade school or documented apprenticeship/OJT

EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (required)

Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics

Working knowledge of refrigeration cycle principles

Valid driver’s license

Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in mechanical spaces, rooftops, and confined areas

Experience:
-
Minimum 4-5 years HVAC-R experience

Certification/License:
-
EPA 608 Universal Certification (Or equivalent, required)

OSHA 10 Construction (OSHA 30 preferred)

Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) certification (required within 90 days of hire)

Refrigerant handling safety training (required within 90 days of hire)
-
First Aid / CPR (required within 90 days of hire)
-
Journeyman HVAC license (Preferred)
-
Chiller or refrigeration system training (Preferred)

Skills

Must possess the technical skill to identify repair requirements as it pertains to HVAC equipment.

Must have expert knowledge of equipment manuals for servicing, operations and repair of HVAC systems.

Must be an expert in corrective actions performed by maintenance teams.

Must have the ability to document and report inspection findings using pictures on required forms.

Must be detail-oriented, have excellent time management skills, and have exceptional customer service skills.

Must be proficient in all phases of documentation as it pertains to servicing, maintenance, repairs, classification, etc.

Must have expert knowledge of equipment operations as it is critical to providing a quality inspection program.

Must be capable of giving and receiving instructions.

Must be capable of working independently with little-or-no guidance.

Must be willing to adapt to rapidly changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment

Working Conditions:
-
Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months).
-
Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
