MedTech Europe, the European trade association representing the medical technology industries, from diagnosis to cure, is currently looking for a Director Sustainability & Environment. This senior role offers the opportunity to shape the MedTech Europe voice in the European sustainability debate, influencing policy directions and supporting the transition towards more sustainable healthcare systems while ensuring continued access to innovative medical technologies for patients in need. You will be part of the MedTech Europe Leadership Team and you will report to the Director General of Industrial Affairs.
You’ll lead a team of four Sustainability & Environment staff while working in partnership with other teams and across our association membership.
- Lead priority sustainability and environmental policy portfolios (e.g. circular economy, waste management, decarbonisation, ESG reporting)
- Shape and drive strategic industry positions on EU Green Deal and related legislative initiatives
- Act as a key spokesperson for MedTech Europe on sustainability and environmental topics
- Promote the role of the medical technology sector in delivering sustainable healthcare systems.
- Maintain strong relationships with key EU institutions, policymakers, regulators, and sustainability stakeholders
- Lead coalition-building efforts and engagement with industry associations, cross-sector alliances, and environmental platforms
- Work with members to develop consensus positions on sustainability and environmental policy questions
- Maintain a continuous engagement with members at the technical, policy and board level.

- Ensure agile and effective internal processes
- Provide sustainability and environmental expertise across policy areas (e.g. regulatory, digital, market access) leading to internal alignment and consistency of messaging.
- Integrate the priorities and considerations from the ESG groups into the broader strategy of the association.
- Monitor and analyse EU policy and regulatory developments related to sustainability, environment, and ESG
- Provide forward-looking insights on emerging trends and risks affecting the sector
- Ensure effective intelligence-sharing and coordination of stakeholder insights to inform advocacy
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Environmental Affairs, Healthcare, EU Institutions or Industry
- Master’s degree, ideally in Environmental, Biomedical, Natural, Political or Social Sciences
- Excellent EU legislative knowledge, especially related to environmental and/or chemical and/or healthcare regulations
- Proven experience leading, organizing and reporting on projects to diverse audiences
- Proven experience building and leading high-performing teams
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at the senior leadership level
- Strong track record of driving strategic change and innovation
- Experience collaborating with C-suite executives and board members
- Partnership-focused with demonstrated ability to work closely with peer-level directors and cross-functional leadership teams
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including a forte for active listening
- Fluent in English, other EU language(s) highly appreciated
- A permanent full-time work contract (39h/week) under Belgium law
