Are you an experienced scientist who thrives both at the lab bench and in leading scientific projects? Do you want to play a key role in developing cutting-edge diagnostic assays while coaching others and growing towards a leadership position?
We are looking for a Senior Scientist in Immunoassay Development who combines deep technical expertise with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset. In this role, you will combine strong hands-on laboratory expertise with scientific leadership and project ownership. You will play a key role in the design, development, optimization and validation of protein-based in vitro diagnostic assays, with a strong focus on immunoassay development.
You will remain closely involved in the laboratory work, while also independently driving complex technical work packages and supporting Product Development Managers in the execution of development projects. As a senior scientist, you will act as a technical sparring partner, help solve complex assay development challenges and support more junior colleagues in their scientific and professional growth.
This position is ideal for an experienced scientist who wants to stay close to the science, but who also has the ambition to grow further towards a project or people management role.
As Senior Scientist Immunoassay Development, you will:
-
Design, develop, optimize, validate and troubleshoot diagnostic immunoassays (RUO and IVD) across automated and manual platforms, including the Lumipulse CLEIA system..
Translate project objectives into clear experimental plans, timelines and technical deliverables.
Independently manage complex work packages or smaller development projects.
Evaluate and optimize critical assay components such as antibodies, antigens, calibrators, controls, conjugates, blockers, buffers and assay diluents.
Contribute to analytical assay performance studies, including sensitivity, specificity, precision, linearity, recovery, interference, matrix effects, robustness and stability.
Interpret experimental data and translate results into clear conclusions, technical recommendations and next steps.
Support Product Development Managers as a senior technical partner in project execution, troubleshooting and decision-making.
Contribute to design reviews, root cause analyses, complaint investigations and product lifecycle improvement activities.
Write and review protocols, reports, technical summaries and development documentation in line with applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
Coach and support junior scientists and technicians in assay development, experimental design, data interpretation and documentation.
Collaborate closely with colleagues from Product Development, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Development, Manufacturing, QC, Supply Chain, Marketing and Customer Support.
We are looking for a scientist who combines strong technical depth with ownership, maturity and the ability to work independently. You preferably have:
-
A Master’s degree or PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bio-engineering or a related scientific discipline.
At least 7–10 years of relevant experience in assay development, preferably in an IVD, diagnostics, biotech or regulated R&D environment.
Strong expertise in immunoassay development and protein-based technologies, including:
-
Immunoassay development and optimization.
Antibody and antigen selection, evaluation and characterization.
Protein purification and characterization techniques such as chromatography, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, protein quantification and purity assessment.
Protein conjugation and labeling, for example enzyme, biotin, fluorophore, chemiluminescent or particle-based conjugation.
Reagent formulation, including buffers, blockers, preservatives, stabilizers and diluents.
Assessment of protein stability, aggregation, degradation, matrix interactions and non-specific binding.
Analytical performance evaluation and structured assay troubleshooting.
Data analysis, statistics and scientific reporting.
Key skills and competencies:
-
Strong scientific judgment and analytical thinking.
Hands-on laboratory mindset combined with project ownership.
Strong problem-solving skills in complex assay development settings.
Accurate, structured and quality-conscious working style.
Ability to translate complex technical data into clear conclusions and recommendations.
Experience with Design Control, IVD, ISO 13485, technical documentation and regulated product development is a strong asset.
Experience in coaching junior colleagues or coordinating technical project activities is strongly preferred.
The ambition and potential to grow towards a Product Development Manager role.
- A senior scientific role with strong technical ownership, hands-on laboratory work, project responsibility and coaching.
- Contribution to the development of high-quality in vitro diagnostic assays.
- Close collaboration with experienced Product Development Managers and cross-functional experts.
- A professional, quality-oriented environment with room for scientific depth, initiative and continuous improvement, with opportunities to grow towards broader project or people leadership responsibilities.
- A challenging full-time position with attractive salary and additional benefits in a recognized Great Place to Work.
