Who are we?
The European Brain Council (EBC) is a non-profit advocacy organisation based in Brussels, Belgium working to improve the lives of people living with brain disorders – neurological and mental alike. EBC advocates for increased investment in brain research, innovation and evidence-based policies, bringing together the European brain community to speak with one voice.
Its membership includes scientific and professional societies, patient organisations and industry partners. By fostering collaboration and dialogue between policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, industry and civil society, EBC helps advance brain health across Europe and beyond.
Role of the Communications, Advocacy & Policy Team
The Communications, Advocacy & Policy Team is responsible for advancing EBC's mission by promoting brain health, research and innovation across Europe. Acting as the voice of EBC and its members, the team develops and implements communication and advocacy strategies, raises awareness among policymakers and key stakeholders, and strengthens the visibility and impact of EBC's activities, projects and flagship events. It monitors and engages with EU health, research and innovation policy developments, builds relationships with European institutions and partner organisations, and develops campaigns, policy resources and events that support evidence-based policymaking and help position brain health as a strategic priority in Europe.
Role of the Communications Officer
This role will place you in the communications-focused part of the EBC Communications, Advocacy & Policy team, executing all external communications efforts of the organisation. This includes digital communications (website and social media) as well as other written content creation and events management.
Many of EBC’s initiatives are policy-oriented at multiple levels: national, EU and/or global. The Officer will work through close collaboration with policy colleagues to ensure all EBC communication is relevant to EBC advocacy priorities and properly reflected in the EBC Communication Strategy and Plan. Key responsibilities would include:
External Communications
- Manage and maintain EBC's digital presence through the implementation of a media plan, keeping schedule and understanding of all needed content (advocacy, projects, member news, etc.) as well as creation and publication across EBC's social media channels.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of EBC's external communications strategy, working closely with colleagues across advocacy, policy and EU-funded projects to maximise the visibility and impact of the organisation's activities.
- Create visual communication materials and campaign assets in line with EBC's brand identity.
- Refresh and regular updating of the EBC and Brain Innovation Days websites (WordPress), ensuring content remains accurate, engaging and up to date.
- Draft, design and distribute external communications, including newsletters, website news articles, press materials, video content and other communication assets such as podcast episodes.
- Coordinate and deliver communication activities for EBC events, including promotional campaigns, speaker communications, participant information, registration support and on-site communications.
Event Management
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of EBC's flagship event, Brain Innovation Days, and support the successful organisation of other EBC meetings, webinars and stakeholder events.
- Implement the social media and communications strategy for the Brain Innovation Days, including content creation and community management across LinkedIn, X, Instagram and YouTube.
We’re looking for someone with:
Professional/Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications or a related field, ideally within a European, non-profit, association or public policy environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing organisational social media channels and developing engaging digital content aligned with strategic communication objectives.
- Experience managing websites using a content management system (WordPress preferred), coordinating digital communications and working with a CRM to produce communication materials, including newsletters and email campaigns.
- Experience planning and delivering communication activities for events, including promotional campaigns, participant communications and on-site support.
- Experience in creating graphics and multimedia tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere Pro or similar). Experience with video editing and multimedia storytelling is a plus.
- Good understanding of the EU institutions and policy landscape, with an interest in health, research and innovation or related policy areas.
Language
- EBC's working language is English and you will be responsible for producing high-quality communications materials in English for a range of audiences. Additional languages are a plus.

- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and coordinate activities across teams.
- A proactive, collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, with the confidence to work independently, take ownership of projects and contribute to the continuous development of EBC's communications.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, members, external partners and service providers.
- Eligibility to work in the European Union. Please note that EBC is unable to provide visa sponsorship.
