Role Overview
To further strengthen our European IT infrastructure landscape, we are looking for a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer (L3) – Cloud, Windows, Linux & Virtualization Specialist.
This is a senior technical role for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges while also contributing to how technology can be modernised, automated and improved across the organisation.
As a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will work across complex enterprise infrastructure covering Windows Server, Microsoft Azure, Linux/Unix and virtualization environments. You will act as a key technical expert and escalation point, ensuring our critical infrastructure remains secure, scalable, resilient and highly available.
While Windows Server and Microsoft Azure will be important areas of expertise, you will also support Linux-based environments and Proxmox virtualization platforms. Beyond day-to-day L3 operations, you will contribute to infrastructure modernisation, automation and architectural improvement initiatives across our European IT landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced L3 infrastructure support, taking ownership of complex incidents and troubleshooting across cloud and on-premise environments.
- Design, deploy and maintain highly available, scalable and secure enterprise infrastructure platforms.
- Support and manage the Windows Server ecosystem, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Remote Desktop Services, file sharing, printing services and SQL Server.
- Support Linux/Unix environments, including enterprise Linux distributions such as RHEL, Ubuntu and Debian, system troubleshooting, performance tuning and hardening.
- Manage Proxmox VE environments, including KVM virtualization, LXC containers, high-availability clusters, storage integration, backup and disaster recovery.
- Manage and operate Microsoft Azure solutions, including IaaS and PaaS services and their integration with on-premise infrastructure.
- Support workload migrations and infrastructure modernisation initiatives across hybrid environments.
- Implement and maintain automation frameworks and reduce manual activities through scripting and orchestration.
- Apply secure-by-design principles and support vulnerability remediation and system hardening across both Windows and Linux environments.
- Contribute to infrastructure architecture, technical standards and the strategic technology roadmap.
- Identify opportunities to improve performance, resilience, automation and cost efficiency across the infrastructure landscape.
- Act as a technical authority and escalation point for L1/L2 engineers, providing mentoring and hands-on knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with architects, project managers, Security teams and external vendors to support successful infrastructure projects and implementations.
What You Will Bring To The Role
- Strong experience in a Senior/L3 Infrastructure Engineering role within a complex enterprise environment.
- Advanced, hands-on knowledge of the Windows Server ecosystem, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, RDS, file services and related enterprise technologies.
- Advanced professional experience with Microsoft Azure, including IaaS, PaaS and hybrid cloud environments.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, ideally including RHEL, Ubuntu and/or Debian.
- Hands-on experience with Proxmox VE, KVM and LXC within enterprise or production environments.
- Good understanding of VMware and/or Hyper-V technologies.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including DNS, routing, firewalls, load balancing, VPN/IPSEC and hybrid connectivity.
- Experience with automation and scripting technologies, particularly PowerShell, with Bash and/or Python knowledge being valuable.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Knowledge of storage technologies including SAN, NAS, Ceph, ZFS, NFS and iSCSI.
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, high availability and clustering solutions.
- Good understanding of infrastructure security, vulnerability management and system hardening.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools and enterprise services such as Office 365.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to remain effective during critical incidents.
- An ownership mindset with the confidence to take end-to-end accountability for complex technical challenges.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A collaborative mindset and genuine interest in mentoring and developing other engineers.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required.
- Flexibility to provide additional or shift-based support when required by business needs.
